Syoban Action: Most Fiendish Game Ever
Words fail me. I think my favorite part of this video is the clear psychological damage that is being done to the player as he is systematically betrayed by a seemingly faithful clone of a beloved video game. You can almost make out the gestures of someone who has been totally emotionally undermined as the player begins to question every jump and move. Nothing is real anymore, and everything you could have counted on has failed you.
You have to see this.
There’s footage of more of Syoban Action’s levels over at Wii Fanboy (h/t), but you should get the point after a few minutes. If you follow episode one to the end you’ll see how truly evil this game is. It’s brilliant, it’s wicked, and if you use fucking Windows you can grab a copy here.

Or “Syobon” if you prefer things that are, you know, spelled correctly. Michael.

This is the best metaphor for life & "growing up" that I've ever encountered. If I had seen this (and benefitted from your insightful commentary) at age 19 I would be rich, thin, tan, and living on a cliff's edge overlooking the Meditteranean by now. Instead I'm still trying to make it by focusing on education. Talk about repeatedly bumping your head into a brick wall...
It really is the first thing that's ever made sense to me in my life.
Since I'm guessing the word is a transliteration of the pronunciation in another language the spelling is certainly flexible. There's no powerful convention that will question or argue the importance of an A or an O for what I'm guessing is the [a] phone.

I just noticed that the author of the game had named the file "syobon.exe," and figure I'd take his word for it. From the amount of traffic I'm getting from people searching for "syoban," I'd guess the "an" variant is a pretty common transliteration.
Ah,good old dongs.exe
pwned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
