Hypocrisy runs like a yellow streak through the limp bitches of the modern media. In my day - the shameless, shimmering 80s - we used sentences like shivs, sticking them right in the ribs of our adversaries while looking them straight in the eye and asking, “Want some more?” These days there is a creepy air of crocodile sympathy hanging over the newspapers as the latest Lady Muck of Grub Street lectures the latest girl of humble origin - Britney, Kerry - about their nasty habits and inability to keep a man.
