California: Same-Sex Marriage O.K.
Well, now that’s a pretty big deal. The largely Republican California supreme court has ruled that laws banning same-sex marriage in their state are totally gay:
Awesome. If you’re the sort of person who likes to watch the news, C&L has some footage. In light of all of these circumstances we conclude that retention of the traditional definition of marriage does not constitute a state interest sufficiently compelling, under the strict scrutiny equal protection standard, to justify withholding that status from same-sex couples. Accordingly, insofar as the provisions of sections 300 and 308.5 draw a distinction between opposite-sex couples and same-sex couples and exclude the latter from access to the designation of marriage, we conclude these statutes are unconstitutional.

Call me jaded, but I think this is an attempt to get the right all riled up about same-sex marriage. It worked for the Republicans in 2004 and, combined with the racist scum element, might just work again. They're tricky bastards.
Yeah, especially with that Nazi/terrorist jab the President threw at Obama yesterday. I wonder how long he's been waiting to use that gem.
