Make Obama Mad

obamamad.jpg
Tennessee’s Republican Party has taken it upon themselves to illustrate what real patriotism is, and God Bless their crypto-fascist hearts, they just had to take a swipe at Michelle Obama while they did it.  One of the things I like about Barack Obama is that he doesn’t shrink from a fight, and true to form, he’s called the GOP out on their bullshit:

“Whoever is in charge of the Tennessee GOP needs to think long and hard about the kind of campaign they want to run, and I think that’s true for everybody, Democrat or Republican,” Obama said in the ABC interview, adding: “These folks should lay off my wife.”

Now, of course the Republicans can say that Michelle is fair game because she’s out on the campaign trail, making speeches and generally acting as an official representative of her husband’s campaign, and they’d have a point (not that I agree with it).  But that’s not why I think they shouldn’t lay off Michelle Obama.

I want Barack Obama pissed off.  In fact, when he takes office, I hope he’s a little bitter and resentful about how the entire campaign went down.  I hope he remembers who his enemies are, because as much as he talks about bipartisanship and how we need to move past our grievances and work together, there are some shitbags out there who need to be afraid of the President of the United States again.

I concur! I would love to see the idiot Christian right slapped down hard. The moronic evangelists, with their lies and their hypocrisy, need to be marginalized. They are one in the same as the regressive religious forces in Islam. In order to win the Presidency, Obama needs to keep up the offensive and make McCain react to his blows. The Republicans have shown how brutal an attack can get. Taking the moral high-ground is too passive to insure victory. Take a lesson from the pill-popping bloated right wing poobah Rush Limbaugh. Attack. Attack. Attack.

As a Canadian, and more importantly as a person who has closely examined and picked apart politics both in Canada and the US, I'm often astounded at the way the Christian Right acts, and that the way they act is condoned and even encouraged by a good deal of the voting populace. Is hate the main method of getting a point across? It fucking well shouldn't be. The common christian Hypocrisy rears it's ugly head on issues such as civil rights violations and abortion(which is a touchy subject and should be treated as such by anyone with a modicrum of intelligence), and continually does so.
Remember when the news media made a big deal about Barack Obama not wearing an american flag pin? Is a fucking lapel pin honestly that important? it's a peice of enameled metal with a flag on it. They shouldn't be judging people on how proudly they show their 'love for their country', they should be judging them on how competently they can serve the interests of the country's people.
Patriotism is well and good, to an extent. There was a rather large group that very much loved their country. They loved it with every fibre of their being. They loved it with every step they took.
Do you remember them? We know them as the Nazis.
I could make the typical slurs here about Bush being compared to Hitler, but I find those mostly unfounded and contradictory to a good argument, so I won't. What I will say, however, is that America is quickly approaching a similar state of Blind Pride. I hate to break it to you, but being an american is nothing to be proud of these days, what with rising poverty levels, a turbulent currency, and a certain reputation for ignorance, stupidity, and warmongering. It isn't really a surprise that many countries are damn near ready to go to war with America. Is it their fault like the media so enjoys saying? No. It's the fault of the media. Way back when Bush began his "war on terror", anyone who spoke out against him was declared "unamerican" and bashed constantly in the news. Later on, the same was said about a good deal of people who remained staunchly in support of him. Should this not be a clue to shut the fuck up and start paying attention? Should this not be a red flag that says "hey, hold on a second, something shady is going on. Maybe i should hop on the internet, pick up a few books, and look some shit up!". It damn well should be, but it isnt for most. It's become damn near a crime to have your own opinion in the US, despite it being a constitutional right to have an opinion and to speak it.
Shut up, start thinking, stop letting people shove an opinion down your throat like it's incontravertable fact. Do some fucking research. Give your country a good reputation again.
I could go on about this sort of thing for hours, but I wont.
Oh, and to finish it off, here's something you'll probably find a surprise. I'm 19.
That's right, a 19 year old Canadian can sit down and have a perfectly reasonable and well thought out opinion on Politics, even foreign politics. That ought to be another sign.

I cant believe Im even reading this crap. Well, as Michelle said,"Obama's ready to rule." I'd like to see HER copy of the constitution. (maybe she left it in one of the 57 states Obama said he campaigned in.)
