Obama to Nerds: Let Me Handle This One
While I disagree with Obama’s decision to compromise on throwing everybody who ever worked for the phone company in jail, I understand that these things happen. And I was pleasantly surprised to see him address the large faction of his supporters who are very displeased with his position:
Now, I understand why some of you feel differently about the current bill, and I’m happy to take my lumps on this side and elsewhere. For the truth is that your organizing, your activism and your passion is an important reason why this bill is better than previous versions.
Man, what a sweet talker. Even when he’s in trouble he turns it into a compliment for the people who are mad at him. My favorite part is this, though:
Democracy cannot exist without strong differences. And going forward, some of you may decide that my FISA position is a deal breaker. That’s ok. But I think it is worth pointing out that our agreement on the vast majority of issues that matter outweighs the differences we may have. After all, the choice in this election could not be clearer.
Oh, yeah, that’s what politics is. Sometimes you have to take the smaller victory. Basically what Obama’s saying here is, “Hey, I’m not trying to be King of the Internet, I’m just trying to be President of the United States.”

You should run for King of the Internet. I mean, with Barack out of the race, you'd have a shot.
Al Gore is already the king of the internets.
