Obama & The Great White Dope

Well, it looks like this little dance is going to happen tomorrow night, eclipsing the GOP convention in terms of both drama and substance.  You’ll remember that Obama had words with O’Reilly back in January, after the Culture Warrior saw fit to push and bully one of Barack’s people at a rally.  If Ralph Kramden had a TV show, and was an asshole, he’d be Bill O’Reilly.

Now it seems Obama has reached some kind of agreement with Rupert Murdoch and FOX News to start granting interviews, which I honestly don’t see the wisdom of, but then again I’m not about to be the next president of the United States.

This has the potential to be more important to the American conscience than any of the Obama/McCain debates.  McCain, for all his failings, is not a true conservative, and has nothing to do with what the movement thinks or how it acts. They don’t like him, much less revere him.  O’Reilly, on the other hand, may not be a politician, but he’s the voice of 21st century conservative wisdom.  He’s the guy who has to make conservatism sound, at least momentarily, like it’s not just kickbacks to rich people and overt racism, and they love him for it.  Now Obama’s coming to over to chat.  It will be on Bill’s turf, and according to Bill’s rules.

I could not feel sorrier for Bill O’Reilly.

I read the transcript. I won't watch Fox News under any circumstance. Bill-O was more of an asshole than I could have imagined and it's hard to tell from reading, but it sounds like Obama handled well.
