Which was, I think, the strategy all along. Obama knew he didn’t need any GOP votes to pass the bill, but he courted them, even to the annoyance of his allies. Let the Republicans talk tough about “obstructionism.” I don’t think it’s going to become the battle cry they hope it will. They already stand to lose a shitload of seats in 2010, so let’s see how well they do after a year and a half of voting against hope.

And now Obama has proven two things: 1) Republicans won’t negotiate no matter what you offer them, and 2) his administration may proceed regardless.

Fuck ‘em. They hate poor people and they have no new ideas.
